Each shade begins as an original sculpture, carefully formed to capture the gentle curve and textured wings of a moth at rest. From this model a plaster mold is made and refined by hand. Fine porcelain slip is prepared, poured into the mold, and timed with precision before the pieces are released. Once dried, the surfaces are decorated using the sgraffito technique — moths and apple-tree branches are drawn into the clay so that their forms remain softly hidden within the texture of the porcelain itself. After firing, the lamps are completed with carefully chosen electrics, ready to cast a warm, intimate glow.
