Whispers of Nature: Stories from my slow design journey

The Jackdaw Earrings — A Story That Learned to Fly Some creations arrive loudly. Others return quietly, again and again, until they are ready.

The Jackdaw earrings were born years ago, during my ceramic studies — a small, persistent idea that kept circling back, like a familiar bird watching from a nearby branch. What began as a design experiment slowly became my final project, then a limited batch for local markets. Years passed, shapes were refined, stories deepened. And now, they have found their true form — and their people.

But the roots of this piece reach much further back.

Their deeper story begins in Saaremaa, in the heart of a little girl listening closely to her grandfather’s voice. Among his many wonderful tales, one stayed with me the most — the story of a rescued jackdaw chick he once cared for. A clever, shadow-winged soul who learned to mimic words, follow him everywhere, and quietly observe the world with bright, curious eyes.

To a child, it felt like magic.
To me now, it feels like the beginning of something much larger.

That moment sparked a lifelong love for all living things — especially those that linger at the edges of admiration. Jackdaws, members of the clever Corvus kin, have followed me through every home I’ve lived in since. They are thinkers and watchers. Loyal tricksters. Quiet companions who remember faces and places.

In the delicate shape of a jackdaw’s skull, I found everything I wanted to express: fragility and beauty, transience and endurance. A reminder that every beginning carries an ending, and every ending plants the seed of something new. What remains is a shell of memory — a trace of a life once lived, a story once told.

These earrings are my first creation.
My first memorable story cast in porcelain.

They mark the beginning of my brand, MYLEMU — a place where nature’s quieter beings are honored, where stories are shaped slowly by hand, and where small details are meant to carry meaning. This is a piece of a wild and wondrous tale I now share with the world — gently, intentionally, and with deep gratitude.
