This is not mass production
Why MYLEMU is made slowly — and Why that matters
STORIES FROM MY SLOW DESIGN JOURNEY

I don’t condemn mass production. It has its place.
Mass-made objects make many things accessible: they’re often affordable, easy to find, and familiar. And yes — familiarity matters. As humans, we naturally want to belong. We want things that fit in. We want something that “works” without having to think too much.
In many areas of life, mass production keeps the world moving. Tools, everyday essentials, the things we rely on to function — we need them. There’s nothing wrong with that. But when it comes to the objects we choose to keep close — the ones that shape how we feel in our space, on our skin, in our presence — something changes.
Because mass production usually has one very specific “face”:
it’s faceless.
It’s made to please everyone a little, instead of someone deeply. It’s designed to fit everywhere, which often means it truly belongs nowhere.
And that’s where MYLEMU begins.
What “slow design” really means
Slow design isn’t a trend. It isn’t a marketing label. And it isn’t only about making something “pretty”, "iconic" or “special.”
Slow design is craftsmanship.
It is knowledge kept alive through hands — through repetition, mistakes, patience, and mastery. It is the kind of work that takes time because it cannot be rushed without losing something essential: the quiet precision, the attention, the care.
A craftsman-made piece carries something mass production cannot replicate:
a sense of presence.
You can feel it in the curves. In the weight. In the tiny decisions that were made along the way. There’s a story hidden in every corner, every twist — not because it was invented for storytelling, but because someone actually made it. Fully. Intentionally.
And if you’ve ever held something like that — something truly crafted — you know it brings a different warmth into your home, into your life.
Not loud warmth. Not “look at me” energy. Just something that feels… alive.
Why slow design is a form of luxury
Yes, slow design is a luxury. But not because of the price tag. It’s a luxury because it requires what modern life rarely gives us:
attention.
Time. Focus. Restraint. Choosing something carefully instead of quickly. Owning less, but loving it more. A piece made slowly isn’t just decoration — it becomes part of how you show up in the world. And the truth is: what we wear affects how we move through life. It changes our posture, our confidence, our decisions — even in small ways.
That’s not vanity.
That’s presence.
We communicate through details more than we realize. We signal who we are, what we value, what we notice, what we prioritize. Sometimes we want to draw attention to our voice. Sometimes to our hands. Sometimes we want to feel protected. Sometimes we want to feel bold.
A single piece can do that — without shouting. It can be quiet and still powerful.
The Jackdaw as the first chapter
The Jackdaw earrings are the first pieces in this world. They’re not made to blend in. They’re made to belong — to nature, to story, to symbolism. Porcelain is chosen for its fragility and strength. Gold is added sparingly, not to impress, but to honour detail. This is not mass production. This is a form revealing itself, slowly.
If you want to start with one piece that carries meaning, begin here:
The Jackdaw — the first chapter of MYLEMU.
And if you feel drawn toward something more cryptic, more flickering, more hidden… maybe you’ll find yourself in The Cryptic Flickerers.
Either way, you’ll know.
Because the right piece doesn’t just match your outfit.
It matches your inner rhythm.
